A project management template that organizes the chaos
At the on-set of most large-scale projects, the work ahead often appears overwhelming and chaotic. A project management template is needed to bring order and direction. "Where do we begin?" and "How do we organize all the parts so that we can finish the project on time and on budget?" These are common questions that can feel unanswerable.
“How to organize such a large event? Where to start and rely on the team I work with? It was interesting how the group contained all the knowledge, yet had no way to assemble it before this session.”

What is needed is a project management template that provides a clear picture of the work to be done, and that is easy to follow and modify.
The roadmap for project management
There are several key pieces a project management template should have to keep the project on track, on time and on budget:
- Separate tracks of activity for each major component of the project. Does the project include IT needs, a finance arm, personnel changes, travel arrangements, advertising? It is likely each of these "tracks" will be coordinated by a different team, and that the teams will operate more smoothly with their tasks clearly identified and coordinated in their own flow.
- A clear timeline. What is the start and finish date for each task required to keep the project on time? What is the critical path? These questions must be answered for a useable project management template.
- Accountability. Who is the go-to person for each track of activity? Who can manage the steps to make sure the work is getting done on time?
- Inter-relationships. Are there tasks in finance that must be completed before the tasks in construction can start? How about advertising? Do the people there need to finish certain tasks before production can begin its track of activity? Coordination between tracks and among tracks is essential to a smoothly run project.
