“When it comes to performance improvement, we actually get results. And the process doesn’t have to be painful”
"Why do we have all these client relationships that are 20+ years long?" Doug asks. Answering his own question, he says: "Because we produce results that are real, and of real value. The idea is to come up with plans that everybody can actually pull off." Doug offers descriptions of PGS’ main products:
“Vision Navigation®, our approach to strategic planning, is different from everybody else’s approach because your own teams do the designing. In process improvement, your teams are trained to design and manage change so the resulting systems can be implemented with ease by your people – your most valuable resource. And, in Dynamic Planning™, our approach to project planning, we address common — and not-so-common — business problems. The process produces teams of your people that are able to manage major projects using a realistic project plan, with on-time and on-budget results.
I think that’s why people keep coming back to us for performance improvement help.”
Doug’s History with PGS
During his tenure at PGS, Doug Johnson has helped a wide spectrum of companies with performance improvement initiatives. He served as a consultant in the launch of Alaska’s first biotechnology company. He has worked with scientists from Stanford Research Institute to commercialize new technology, led multifaceted governmental performance improvement initiatives and has assisted the oil industry in becoming "safer, cleaner, better," in positioning themselves for the 21st century.
Doug leads the Professional Growth Systems Product Innovation Team and, as such, he is committed to continually educating himself in performance improvement by studying the work of "practicing masters." He has studied the writings of, and participated in educational events conducted by those considered the leaders of our time, such as W. Edwards Deming, Michael Hammer and Clayton Christensen.
Partial list of PGS activities:
- Large international petroleum company
Helped develop a maintenance scheduling approach for the entire North Slope operation, which includes more than a billion dollars of infrastructure. This project helped streamline and coordinate processes that control millions of man-hours of work per year. - Architectural, engineering and consulting firm
Helped an international team of architects, engineers, and contractors develop a collaborative approach to building a one-of-a-kind, state of the art, 350-bed, $2 billion dollar hospital complex in Abu Dhabi. PGS was engaged to assist with getting the various teams to develop a working approach that increased productivity while reducing mistakes and rework, problems that are so prevalent on international projects of this scale.
As part of this project, Doug also worked with another company that consults in fields such as energy and chemicals, industrial and infrastructure, government and power plants (coal, gas, oil, nuclear and renewable). - International petroleum company
This company describes itself as a "… global group of energy and petrochemicals companies with around 102,000 employees in more than 100 countries and territories. Our innovative approach ensures we are ready to help tackle the challenges of the new energy future."
PGS and Doug were engaged to facilitate meetings (which took place over several months) of all key stakeholders in support of a comprehensive safe operations plan for new oil and gas development in the Chuckchi Sea. This work helped build the credibility of the industry in the interest of gaining the approval of the state and federal governments to begin the development process. They got the approval. - Renewable energy company
This organization "… is committed to developing breakthrough technology and eco-conscious projects that harness the power of the world’s rivers and oceans to generate clean, predictable, affordable energy. In partnership with river and coastal communities, [the organization] works to create and sustain local jobs while promoting energy independence and protecting the environment."
Doug helped launch the company using the tools and approach of Professional Growth Systems. The company is emerging as a leading ocean and river energy company in the United States.
